1983 in Seattle, Washington. In October 1993, we merged with The Price Company,
which had pioneered the membership warehouse concept, to form Price/Costco,
Inc., a Delaware corporation. In January 1997, after the spin-off of most of our
non-warehouse assets to Price Enterprises, Inc., we changed our name to Costco
Companies, Inc. On August 30, 1999, we reincorporated from Delaware to
Washington and changed our name to Costco Wholesale Corporation. Our common

Costco Wholesale Corporation reported net sales of $5.9 billion for the month ended August 29, 2010, an increase of 9% from $5.4 billion in the same four-week period last year. Net sales for the fiscal 2010 fourth quarter, the 16 weeks ended August 29, 2010, were $23.6 billion, an increase of 8% from $21.9 billion in the 16-week fourth quarter of fiscal 2009 ended August 30, 2009. Net sales for the 52-week fiscal year 2010 were $76.3 billion, an increase of 9% from $69.9 billion in the 52-week fiscal year 2009 ended August 30, 2009. The company plans to open up to ten additional warehouses in the first four months of fiscal 2011, prior to the end of calendar year 2010.

For the month, the company reported comparable-store sales in August rose 7% while net sales gained 9% to $5.9 billion. Costco announced U.S. same-store sales in August increased 6% and international sales jumped 11%. Excluding gasoline and foreign exchange, August same-store sales rose 5%; Costco announced fourth-quarter of fiscal 2010 net sales rose 8% to $23.6 billion while same-store sales rose 6%. Fiscal-year 2010 net sales gained 9% to $76.3 billion and same-store sales were 7% higher.
