Exxon Mobil Corp. has been ordered to pay $1.2 million to 16 Louisiana workers who say they were not warned about radioactive contamination in drilling pipes they cleaned. The plaintiffs, all former employees of Intracoastal Tubular Services (ITCO), had sought at least $17 million, including punitive damages, stemming from their time working at ITCO's facility in Harvey, La. The Jefferson Parish jury verdict, announced did not include punitive damages, but awarded the plaintiffs compensation for the increased likelihood they will develop cancer. The lawsuit was filed after a state court ordered Exxon and ITCO to pay $1 billion in punitive damages to landowners for radiation at the facility. That verdict was upheld upon appeal, though the damages were reduced to $122 million.

Exxon Mobil Corp. announced that Ras Laffan Liquefied Natural Gas Company Limited (3) (Ras Laffan 3) has commenced production of LNG from Train 7 at Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar. This LNG project is a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil Ras Laffan (3) Limited. The Ras Laffan 3 Train 7 is the fourth 7.8 million tons per year LNG plant brought online by Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil joint ventures within the past 12 months.
Oil Search Ltd. and Exxon Mobil Corp. Announce PNG LNG Joint Venture

Oil Search Ltd. announced the $15 billion PNG LNG project could eventually be built up to have four trains, greatly expanding its original capabilities. The ExxonMobil-led PNG LNG joint venture is expected to begin production in 2014, and the company holds about a 29% stake in the project. Two gas trains were expected to be built for PNG LNG, but the company said there may be sufficient resource base to underwrite another two trains. Early plans are for a third train to be built in late 2015 or early 2016.
