Dell Inc. has decided to hold off plans to close a Winston-Salem, North Carolina, based desktop assembly plant. The plant was scheduled to close in January 2010 as part of other cost savings measures, but the company said it will stay open at least until July 2010. The plant was previously given an extension through April 2010.

Dell announced WiMax on Inspiron Mini 10 Netbook. The Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbook now comes with an optional internal combo card for WiMax or WiFi via 802.11a/g or n, for an extra $60. Dell currently also offers the option on several Studio, Vostro and Latitude notebooks. Dell is adding the option of WiMax connectivity to its Inspiron Mini 10 netbook, extending a list that already includes several of its Studio, Vostro and Latitude notebooks.

Dell Inc. announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the fourth quarter and full year ended January 29, 2010. For the quarter, the company reported total revenue was $14.9 billion, an 11% increase from $13.43 billion a year ago and a 16% sequential gain. Revenue improved in all of Dell's business segments as the company consolidated results from the former Perot Systems for the first time. The company reported operating income of $510 million, net income of $334 million or $0.17 earnings per share compared to operating income of $457 million, net income of $351 million or $0.18 earnings per share for the same period last year. On non-GAAP basis, the company reported operating income of $798 million, net income of $544 million or $0.28 earnings per share compared to operating income of $721 million, net income of $554 million or $0.29 earnings per share for the same period last year. The company reported income before income taxes of $469 million compared to $454 million for the same period last year. The company reported net cash provided by operating activities of $1.27 billion, purchase of investments of $201 million and capital expenditures of $118 million compared to net cash provided by operating activities of $729 million, purchase of investments of $434 million and capital expenditures of $39 million for the same period last year. For the full year, the company reported operating income of $2.17 billion, net income of $1.43 billion or $0.73 earnings per share on the revenue of $52.9 billion compared to operating income of $3.19 billion, net income of $2.48 billion or $1.25 earnings per share on the revenue of $61.1 billion for the same period last year. On non-GAAP basis, the company reported operating income of $2.97 billion, net income of $2.05 billion or $1.05 earnings per share compared to operating income of $3.68 billion, net income of $2.85 billion or $1.44 earnings per share for the same period last year. The company reported income before income taxes of $2.02 billion compared to $3.32 billion for the same period last year. The company reported net cash provided by operating activities of $3.91 billion, purchase of investments of $1.38 billion and capital expenditures of $367 million compared to net cash provided by operating activities of $1.89 billion, purchase of investments of $1.58 billion and capital expenditures of $440 million for the same period last year.
