Dell and SecureWorks, Inc. have established an partnership to provide a full range of information security services that help customers identify, monitor and manage security risks and compliance needs. The services will be available by the end of the year.

Dell announced a comprehensive security solution portfolio for midsized businesses and organizations that integrates industry leading technology, products, security management tools and services to help customers protect their IT infrastructure and most precious asset--data. As part of its comprehensive security solution, Dell and Juniper Networks announced plans for an expansion of their agreement to develop additional SMB focused Unified Threat Management features and network security appliances, adding to the existing J-SRX Services Gateway portfolio that sets the standard for on-premise network security. The complete portfolio is available starting July 28 as the Dell J-SRX Services Gateway Series. Dell Security Solution Portfolio: Network Security: The Dell J-SRX Services Gateways integrate a full suite of advanced network security services into a single appliance, enabling organizations to simplify their security deployments; Endpoint Security: The Dell KACE K1000 Management Appliance provides comprehensive features for managing endpoint security. The appliance offers a wide range of life-cycle management capabilities including system inventory, helpdesk and application deployment as well as key security features such as vulnerability assessment and remediation via patch management and configuration enforcement; Security Services: Dell, through its SecureWorks partnership, will offer a portfolio of powerful security services, to help midsize businesses improve their security posture, achieve their regulatory compliance, and lower IT costs by offloading day-to-day security monitoring, management and remediation to a trusted security services provider, working as an extension of a customers' IT staff.

Dell Inc. is paying $100 million to settle civil charges that it used fraudulent accounting to meet Wall Street earnings targets. The settlement culminated a five-year investigation by the agency. While the $100 million fine was far from the largest penalty levied by the SEC, the decision to charge a sitting chief executive of a major company and reach a seven-figure settlement with him is rare. The SEC said that the company failed to disclose to investors large payments it received from Intel Corp. in exchange for not using central processing units made by Intel's main rival, Advanced Micro Devices Inc. Those payments enabled Dell to meet its quarterly earnings targets. After Intel stopped the payments, Dell again misled shareholders by not disclosing the real reason its profits had dropped. The company and Michael Dell neither admitted nor denied wrongdoing. But they did agree to refrain from future violations of the securities laws. The company also agreed to improve its disclosure process by hiring an outside consultant and expanding its training of employees.
