Amazon announces new Kindle models for August

Quote: LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- Amazon.com Inc. announced Wednesday a new-generation model of its Kindle e-reader device, as well as a cheaper "Kindle Wi-Fi" version. The Internet retailer said the new version of the Kindle will sell for $189 and have "a 21% smaller body while still keeping the same 6-inch-size reading area, and a 15% lighter weight." It also said the new model has faster page-turns and double the memory of the current version. The Kindle Wi-Fi, meanwhile, will retail for $139, but won't include the 3G wireless feature. Amazon said both Kindles will begin shipping on Aug. 27. The announcement followed news earlier in the day that the company had sold out of its basic Kindle e-reader, according to Agence France-Presse.
